Innovative High-Thrust Locking Mechanism for Vertical Motors

What is a Non-Reverse Ratchet (NRR)?

A Non-Reverse Ratchet (NRR) is a mechanical locking device mounted on the motor shaft to prevent reverse rotation. It is commonly used in vertical motor applications, especially in pumps, where reverse flow or backspin due to gravity or pressure can cause serious mechanical stress or system damage.
Amppera’s NRR is installed on the upper section of the motor and mechanically locks the shaft against rotation in the reverse direction. The mechanism functions similarly to a ratchet wrench, allowing rotation in one direction while locking in the other.

What Does the Amppera NRR Look Like?

Amppera manufactures two variants of the NRR: 9-pin and 12-pin configuration.

The appropriate version is selected based on the reverse torque load expected on the motor shaft.

What Makes Amppera’s NRR Superior?

  • Superior Materials: constructed from thermally treated stainless steel, rather than the sand-cast components used in traditional NRRs. This results in a 5 to 7 times higher mechanical strength, ideal for harsh and high-impact environments.

    Innovative

Pin-Based Design: traditional NRRs typically use ball contact mechanisms. Amppera’s NRR uses a pin-contact design, which distributes force more effectively and is inherently more resistant to impact and high moment loads.

Higher Precision and Reliability: enhanced mechanical accuracy and tight tolerances due to high-grade materials and precision manufacturing. Ensures consistent performance under repeated load cycles and prevents premature wear or failure.

Compact Footprint: the Amppera NRR is typically up to 40% more compact than most standard NRRs on the market. This smaller size facilitates easier integration, especially in space-constrained installations.

Ease of Maintenance: Amppera’s NRR design allows worn parts to be replaced individually, reducing both maintenance costs and downtime.
